South West Phoenix defeated United 4-0

The South West Phoenix Development Squad played their first game under the new lights at Hay Park Pavillion. There was a good crowd supporting both teams. South West Phoenix with only 11 available players to pick from had to bring up 2 young players From the Under 16’s Kyle Widdeson and Mac Smith who started on the bench. Also half of the starting 11 had been to country week and this meant they had 7 straight days of football which was a mammoth effort from the lads. The game kicked off and Bunbury United looked comfortable on the ball as they neatly kept possession in the early stages of the game but without really threatening our goal. Midway in the first half Phoenix got a corner which was brilliantly swung in by Archie Culnane headed down by Ollie McGee and Anthony Perrella made sure from close range with the score 1-0. The first half was pretty even and the Phoenix were rewarded with another goal from Jayden Prosser with a neat finish.  To be honest we probably didn’t deserve to go in 2-0 at half time but were happy none the less. \

The second half Bunbury United came out and had made changes to their team shape as they were now chasing the game. This somewhat helped us play the style of football the young lads like to play. Kyle Widdeson and Mac Smith were both introduced with 30 minutes to go and were impressive on their senior debut. The Phoenix took control of the second half and scored two more again by Prosser and Perrella and held on to keep a clean sheet which is always important. Final score line 4-0 to the Phoenix. Man of the Match was the ever improving Josh Woodcock who played centre back for the first time and was excellent. The young Southwest Phoenix team are improving, getting stronger, and gaining confidence in this South West League. I would also like to say thank you to the ball boys CJ, Logan, Nathan and Hamish which was great to see Junior players supporting the team. Again great to see Bunbury United Players, coaching staff and supporters joining us in the clubhouse after the game. Thank you all.
